Yokohama Advan A048
A semi slick tyre with racing performance.
The Yokohama Advan A048 tyre is MSA List 1C, and is no longer road legal.
The A048 was Yokohama’s main track tyre for many years, it has now being replaced by the A050 and A052.
This tyre has been the original equipment fitment for the Lotus Elise and is used by the Lotus Cup Championship as their all-weather control tyre.
It comes in a medium compound.
The Yokohama Advan A048 is still available in a number of 60” profile sizes which are not accommodated by the A050 or A052.
The operating temperature for the Yokohama Advan A048 tyre tread compound is between 45 and 120 degrees Celsius. The optimum ‘working’ temperature is 65 to 95 degrees Celsius, with a temperature spread of 10-15 degrees across the tyre tread area.
Yokohama recommend the following technical set up:
For “M” compound tyres maximum hot tyre pressures should be between 28 and 32 psi.
For “MH” compound tyres maximum tyre pressures should be between 28 and 36 psi.
Although the tyre will work with camber angles of up to 5 degrees negative, the optimum camber angle is 1-2.5 negative if springs and roll stiffness are correct.
The individual set-up will vary according to the car and whether it is front, rear or 4-wheel drive.

Yokohama Advan A050
The Yokohama Advan A050 tyre is MSA List 1C.
This semi slick tyre has been used for a number of years in Japan and Australia. It is very similar in design and construction to the Advan A048, although the block tread pattern has been modified.
The Yokohama Advan A050 is only available in the UK in a limited range of sizes. Those drivers that have converted to the A050 tyre from the A048 have gone quicker, and it is now their preferred choice.

Yokohama Advan A052
The Yokohama Advan A052 tyre is MSA List 1B, and is road legal.
The latest tyre from Yokohama, it incorporates a completely new asymmetric high rigidity tread pattern which gives it superior performance, controlled handling and extreme grip on both wet and dry surfaces. The A052 is ‘A’ rated in all sizes for wet weather performance.
The A052 has been used by many competitors in the Classic Sports Car Club (CSCC) this year and is proving to be very quick, with many outright and class wins across the numerous series.
The optimum ‘working’ tyre temperature of the Yokohama Advan A052 is around 40 degrees Celsius, with a temperature spread of 10-15 degrees across the tyre tread area.
Yokohama recommend the following technical set up:
Optimum hot pressure dry use 2.0 - 2.2 bar or 29-32lbs.
Minimum cold air pressure is 1.4 bar or 20lbs.
Optimum camber set up for race is 3.5 – 4.0 degrees negative.
The individual set-up will vary according to the car and whether it is front, rear or 4 wheel drive.
